Measurement Guide Text: Over the following pages we will be explaining to you, step by step, how to take your measurements to ensure that your clothing fits as well as it can. To guide you through the process, each measurement required has a description of what you need to do, a drawing to show you exactly how to take it. Here are some tips to help you through the process:
• Wear a shirt and trousers (no shoes) when you are taking the measurements, this helps to ensure you are getting the correct measurements by giving you something to base them on. • Although it is entirely possible to measure yourself, it is easier if you can have someone else help you with it. • Don’t worry about how long it will take. The entire process should take you around 15-20 minutes, and you only need to do it once. We will save your measurements for any future orders. • You can take the measurements in Centimetres or Inches depending on what you are most confident with, but make sure you use the same unit for all measurements! • If you have any problems or questions, feel free to give us a call!
When taking each measurement please make sure the tape measure is just resting gently against your skin and not too tight.

Take the start of the tape measure and place it in the middle of the neck, where you would like the top button of your shirt/blouse to be; hold it in place with your finger. Next take the other end around back of the neck just under the hairline and bring it back round to the front to meet your finger. Put a finger between the tape measure and your neck and take the measurement where the tape meets.
Chest: Required for shirts, jackets, waistcoats and overcoats
Take the start of the tape measure and place it in the middle of your chest, between your ribs at nipple level. Pull the other end under your armpit, horizontally around your back and through the other armpit and back to the start to meet the other end. The tape measure should be horizontal to the floor at nipple level. You should stand straight with your shoulders back and your chest inflated normally. Put a finger between the tape measure and your chest and take the measurement where the tape meets.
Front Width: Required for shirts, jackets, waistcoats and overcoats
Measure across your back from the corner of one armpit to the other. The tape should be just slightly loose This measurement defines the looseness of the jacket back.
Back width: Required for shirts, jackets, waistcoats and overcoats
Measure across your front from the corner of one armpit to the other. The tape should be just slightly loose
This measurement defines the looseness of the jacket front.
Shoulder width: Required for shirts, jackets, waistcoats and overcoats
Make sure you are wearing a shirt. Take a moment to notice how the shoulders fit when you stand straight with your arms down. Do they go straight down and look well fitted, or are they too loose or tight? Take the start of the tape measure and place it on your left shoulder, where you would like the seam of your jacket or shirt arm to start: this is usually at the end of your shoulder where you can feel the shoulder bone. Take it across your back, curving it so it goes up towards the bottom of your neck in the middle and place it on the same location on your right shoulder. Take the measurement at the point you want your jacket or shirt arm seam to start on your right arm.
Left Sleeve: Required for shirts, jackets, waistcoats and overcoats
Make sure you are wearing a suit jacket. Put the start of the tape measure where you would like your sleeves to start (the point where you measured the end of your shoulders). Let the other end of the tape measure hang down the middle of your arm. Make sure your arms are down to the side and you are standing straight. To help guide you, on shirts this is usually down to the first joint in your thumb. For jackets it is usually down to just above your knuckles.
Right Sleeve: Required for shirts, jackets, waistcoats and overcoats
This is done the same way as the left sleeve. Although it sounds hard to believe, often people have slight variances in the length of their arms. If you find that this difference is any more than 1.5cm you may want to check your measurements again, and ensure you are standing straight with your shoulders level.
Jacket Waist: Required for shirts, jackets, waistcoats and overcoats
Take the start of the tape measure and place it in the middle of the front of your body, where you are biggest. This is generally the area just underneath the rib cage. Take the other end of the tape measure around your back and bring it back to the start to meet the other end. Put a finger between the tape measure and your body and take the measurement where the tape meets.
Shirt/Jacket Length: Required for shirts, jackets and overcoats
Make sure you are wearing a shirt. Put the tape measure on either side, in between your neck and shoulders, where the stitching on your shirt meets. Let the other end hang down straight to the floor going over your pecs. Make sure you are standing up straight and take the measurement exactly where you would like your jacket/shirt to end. Different Styles: A standard smart suit fit will have the bottom of the shirt/jacket around the level of the end of your thumb when your arms are by your sides. Adjust the length depending on the style you want to achieve.
Waistcoat Front: Required for waistcoats
Make sure you are wearing a shirt. Put the tape measure on either side, in between your neck and shoulders, where the stitching on your shirt front and back meets. Let the other end hang down straight to the floor going over your pecs. Make sure you are standing up straight and take the measurement exactly where the tape measure meets your waist.
Waistcoat Back: Required for waistcoats
Put the start of the tape measure on the back of your neck, where you would usually wear your collar. Let the other end hang down the middle of your back. Make sure that you are standing straight and tall and take the measurement at the point where you would like the back of your waistcoat to end.
Trouser Waist: Required for trousers
Take the tape measure and put it on the front of your body, at the level that you like to wear your trouser waist. Take the other end of the tape measure around your back and bring it around the front to meet the other end. Ensure that the tape measure is horizontal to the ground. You should be able to fit a finger in between the tape measure and your waist – make sure you leave some breathing room!
Seat: Required for trousers
Take the tape measure and place it on your hips on one side. Take the other end of the tape measure around your buttocks where they are biggest and bring it to meet your finger. Ensure that the tape measure is horizontal to the ground. Put a finger between the tape measure and your body and take the measurement where the tape meets. Crotch: Required for trousers
Put the start of the tape measure at the level where you measure your trouser waist, in the middle of your body. Bring the other end under your crotch and place it on your back, at the level of your trouser waist. Ensure that you give yourself enough room for comfort! Thigh: Required for trousers
Make sure you are wearing a smart pair of trousers and you have nothing in your pockets. Take the tape measure around the point at which your thighs are largest – usually where your legs meet your crotch and bring it back round to the front to meet the other end. Put a finger between the tape measure and your thigh and take the measurement where the tape meets.
Outside Leg: Required for trousers
 Do not wear any shoes. Put the end of the tape measure at the level at which you measured your trouser waist at the side of your body. Take the tape measure straight down your leg until it touches the ground and take the measurement at this point. Make sure that you keep the tape measure tight down your body, and stand up straight and tall to ensure that you get the correct measurement. | Preparation Questions | | | | | Body Type | Number | | Back Shape | | | Stomach | | | Shoulders | | | Chest Type | | | Thighs | | | Arms | | | Seat | | | | | | Measurement Type | Size | | Neck | | | Chest | | | Front of Chest | | | Back Width | | | Shoulder Width | | | Left Sleeve | | | Right Sleeve | | | Jacket Waist | | | Shirt/Jacket Length | | | Waistcoat Front | | | Waistcoat Back | | | Trouser Waist | | | Seat | | | Crotch | | | Thigh | | | Outside Leg | |
